Traffic Safety and Cold Weather Days

With the safety of our students, staff, and community being a top priority, we are writing to remind everyone of the importance of parking safety around our school. Ensuring a safe setting during drop-off and pick-up times helps protect our children and creates a more efficient flow of traffic.

  • Please do not park in staff parking lot.
  • Watch for bus zones in front of the school where 4 of our school buses park everyday.
  • Do not block the neighbours yards or driveways.
  • U-turns in the middle of the street is dangerous and has the potential of a dangerous outcome.
  • Please cross the street at the crosswalk - yes we know it is a bit further but it has a clearer sight line and is well-marked for student safety. Let’s model for our students how to cross the street safely. We are so proud of our student crosswalk patrols.
  • On "blue dot days" when the temperature is below -20 with the windchill, staff are at every door by 8:38 am letting students in right away. If you are parked far from your child's regular entry/exit door on a blue dot day, remind them to come to the first door they see and enter there. We want all students in the building safe and warm any time after 8:38 am on these days.
  • Staff members are on supervision at 8:38am. This is a time for parents to drop and go. Many students enjoy these few minutes in the morning to play with friends. Of course, parents are welcome to stay until the bell if they wish, just please do not crowd the entry doors as it makes entry into the building

Early/Late Student Pick-Up

School dismissal time is at 3:35pm (Mon-Thurs) and 12:35pm (Fri). Please try to avoid picking up your child in the last 30 minutes of the school day. This puts a lot of pressure on the office and classrooms to organize the end of the day. If you do require picking up your child early, please plan ahead and notify the teacher and office at the beginning of the day if you have an appointment coming up that requires an early pick up. We understand in emergent situations that sometimes you will need to pick up your child early.

Attendance Matters

As we continue to strive for academic excellence, I want to emphasize the critical role that regular attendance plays in your child's education and overall success. Regular attendance can support the following:

  • Consistent Learning: Regular attendance ensures that your child receives continuous instruction and does not miss out on important lessons. Each day builds on the previous one, and missing school can create gaps in knowledge that are challenging to fill.
  • Building Responsibility: Attending school regularly helps instill a sense of responsibility and commitment in students. It teaches them the importance of punctuality and reliability, which are essential life skills.
  • Social Development: School is not just about academics; it's also a place where children develop social skills, form friendships, and learn to work collaboratively with others. Regular attendance helps foster a strong sense of community and belonging.
  • Academic Achievement: Studies show that students with consistent attendance are more likely to perform better academically. Missing school can lead to lower grades and increased difficulty in keeping up with coursework.

Outstanding Demographics Forms *IMPORTANT*

Some parents and guardians have not completed their demographic forms in School Engage. Please sign in to your MyCBE account and complete the forms in School Engage. We have asked teachers to let families know this week at conferences if their demographic forms need to be updated.

Snacks, Food and Treats Reminders

We always appreciate parent and student generosity. Spreading kindness is always our goal. At beginning of the school year we made changes to our processes with regards to food and gifts. We are asking parents not to send treats, birthday cakes, food or class count items with your child to school for teachers to distribute to other students. We reassure you that we celebrate all children everyday at our school in a variety of ways during the school year. If your child comes with a class count of items to hand out we apologize ahead of time but we will be sending the items home with your child at the end of the day. Thank you for your understanding and support with this new process.

School Council Updates
