Halloween Reminders

CJM will continue the pumpkin carving contest tradition. A message to the whole school will be sent out this week with more information.

Students are welcome to dress in a costume on October 31.  The decision to dress up is optional and is a personal choice. We support your decision to send your child dressed up or not. If your child does not want to dress up, then they are welcome to wear regular school attire or wear orange and/or black.

If your child dresses up, please ensure they can move in their costume as they will be going outside for recess in their costume and participating in gym class. They also need to be able to independently use the washroom and redress themselves. We will not be able to support all children if they have difficulty with their choice in costume.

To ensure all students stay safe, we will have the following Halloween expectations:

  • Please do not send any treats for the classrooms that day, as we can not share any food or treats.
  • Students can not wear masks at school.
  • Students are unable to bring any toy weapons (i.e swords, knives, etc.)
  • Students are discouraged from bringing objects that they need to hold (i.e. wands, shields) as holding these items makes learning hard.
  • Please ensure the costumes are appropriate for small children to view (no gore or frightening costume attire)
  • Following Halloween, please help us with healthy eating choices and only send a maximum of 2 treats per day for the student's lunch or snack.

Dress for the Weather

In the very near future, the beautiful fall weather will soon turn into frosty mornings and snowy days. Please ensure that your child is ready for this sudden change in weather. Warm winter jackets, snow pants, toques and gloves will be necessary. Please try to label your child’s items so that when things are in the lost and found we can do our best to return it to your child.

Grade 5 and 6 Trip to Telus Spark

On October 29 and 30 our grade 5 and 6 students are planning an off-site activity to TELUS Spark Science Center. This off-site activity will support and enhance our Science curriculum, with a specific focus on the use of computers, coding, and technology for grade 5 and 6 students.  The TELUS Spark is a purpose-built science center, intended to inspire people to wonder, question and learn. Staff and visitors learn, play and create together. Students will be able to engage in key science skills through problem solving and applying knowledge in order to solve a “locked” room puzzle. We are looking for volunteers that have a completed Security Clearance for Volunteers to support this trip. If you are available to volunteer, please contact your child’s teacher or call the school. Even if your child is not in Grade 5 or 6, we would love your help as a volunteer!

Wishing you all a lovely week ahead.
