Good afternoon Parents and Families

We have a few quick updates and reminders for our CJM community.

Welcome Back Open House

Thank you to all CJM students and families for attending our Welcome Back Open House Night. Our halls and classrooms were filled with love and joy. The CJM staff enjoyed meeting families and getting to know everyone. Thank you for trusting us with your children every day.

Monday, Sept 30-No School

The Government of Canada has proclaimed Sept. 30 as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. September 30 will be a non-operational day to commemorate truth and reconciliation across the Calgary Board of Education. This means there will be no classes and schools will be closed for the day.

IMPORANT REMINDER: Action Required | MyCBE

Schools have a variety of forms that parents / legal guardians are required to complete or review and update, some of which are paper and others online. In CBE, the forms in an online format (SchoolEngage) are:

  • Demographic Verification - 2024-25 – This form includes your child’s personal information as well as parent / legal guardian contact information.
  • Citizenship Information Update - 2024-25 – This form becomes available if you change your child’s citizenship information on the Demographic Verification form.
  • Annual Authorization - 2024-25 – Combines the following forms:
  • School District Use of Personal Information - explains how CBE uses personal information in providing education services.
  • Consent for CBE Use of Student Information – provides an option to grant / not grant consent for additional use of student information by school/district and third parties.
  • Consent for Use of Student Information by News Media and Outside Groups (Third Party) - provides an option to grant / not grant consent for additional use of student information by outside groups and third parties

SchoolEngage is one of the applications found in your MyCBE account. This is the same account that you use to pay fees, view academic information, book school conferences, etc.

Snacks, Food and Treats

We always appreciate parent and student generosity. Spreading kindness is always our goal. We are making changes to our processes with regards to food and gifts. We are asking parents not to send treats, birthday cakes, food or class count items with your child to school for teachers to distribute to other students. We reassure you that we celebrate all children everyday at our school in a variety of ways during the school year. If your child comes with a class count of items to hand out we apologize ahead of time but we will be sending the items home with your child at the end of the day. Thank you for your understanding and support with this new process.

Student Attendance

If your child is away due to illness, family event, medical, etc. please leave a message on the attendance line. 403-777-6700 ext.1. If you are going on an extended vacation please email chiefjusticemilvainschool@cbe.ab.ca and inform us of your plans. All extended absences will require a form and a meeting with the Principal before your departure. Please contact the school if you have further questions.

Come Volunteer with Us

We welcome volunteers in the classroom, on field trips and with certain tasks at school or at home. Certain activities or field trips would not be possible without the active participation of our volunteers.

As a CBE volunteer, you are placed in a position of trust with students, staff or property.  All adult volunteers require a valid security clearance - no exceptions.

Please visit the CBE website to learn more about becoming a volunteer. If you have further questions please contact the school.

October School Council and Parent Society Meeting

Our School Council and Parent Society will be having their first meeting of the school year on Wednesday, October 2 at 6:00pm in the school conference room. This is an adult business meeting and all parents are welcome to attend.

Lunchroom Fees

If your child is saying for lunch you must register for the lunchroom program. You can register through the MyCBE account. If your child is not staying for lunch and you are not accessing the lunchroom program please pick your child up at 12:25 and drop them off at the front door at 1:05. If you plan to drop off your child’s lunch please mark clearly on the lunch your child’s name, grade and teacher name. Our front office staff is quit busy and this helps when students come down to pick up their lunch.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,

Alison Marsters, Principal
